Linebacker Shawne Merriman hasn’t played a single down for the winless Buffalo Bills yet and it’s looking like the team will have to wait another week for that to happen, according to the Buffalo News.The paper reports that Merriman got himself a mild strain in his lower right leg during practice yesterday and that “the injury almost certainly rules Merriman out” against the Denver Broncos this weekend.
“What happens is everyone gets their expectations so high,” Bills head coach Chan Gailey said, according to the News. “You’ve gotta realize he hasn’t played a lot of football. He hasn’t had pads on in awhile, all that kinda stuff. You want him out there but he’s not quite ready. We’re not going to put him out there till he’s ready. That’s the No. 1 thing. We’re not gonna put him out there till he’s ready.”
Merriman is a free agent at season’s end so there’s not much time to waste.
