Per NFL.com:
Saints coach Sean Payton spoke with Bill Parcells on Tuesday about a possible role for the retired coach during Payton’s upcoming one-year suspension, but nothing is imminent, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
In one of several scenarios the team is considering, Parcells could end up returning in a consulting role, be around the building a fair bit, but not actually take the interim coach title.
Assistant head coach Joe Vitt could receive the interim title despite his six-game suspension. In that scenario, Vitt would lead the team through the entire offseason, and then someone else would run the sideline during the six games he sits.
Payton hasn’t made a final decision on an appeal of his one-year suspension (which is set to begin April 1) for his role in the Saints’ “bounty” scandal.
